Alison's Pets
Alison (in yellow), Pacu & family Winston Snoopy
My first pet was Pacu - a St. Bernard. He was the sweetest dog to ever walk the earth when it came to dealing with a rambunctious baby (me) and my sister, who was two years older. He was a gentle giant around us but a fierce protector should anyone dare approach us. To my dismay, Pacu was not with us very long.
We were petless for a few years, and then my parents surprised us one night by announcing we were going to get a puppy. The puppy turned out to be an apricot miniature poodle. For some reason which is debated even to this day, my parents let me name him. This was not a question in my mind about the name since there was one dog I revered more than any other: Snoopy. I had Snoopy sheets (no kidding), Snoopy art work, and Snoopy bean bag animals. Now I had a real live puppy named Snoopy, too.
Snoopy ruled the Bowman household for the next 20 years. He ate cauliflower, dissected every ball he could find and believed his proper place was plopped on top of a vent to ensure he would capture the a/c or heat for a room. Snoopy had a great life, then moved on to the big tennis ball field in the sky when I was in my 20s.
Due to my travel schedule, I am now an Aunt and a Godmother to several dogs in Virginia and Tennessee. Let's start with my nieces, Smokey and Ruby, two coon hounds and the poster dogs for Babuware. My sister cooks Smokey and Ruby their own food, and I have always had trouble distinguishing what was their food in the fridge from leftovers for humans.
Next up are my God-daughters Lulu and Emma. These pugs have captured the hearts of every local dog park walker and could not have been more pleased to mug for the cameras. They are still upset our website does not feature them more prominently.
And finally, I have my God-son Winston. He is quite the character and lives right down the street from me. Look at that face. Who could not fall in love?!??!
These are the animals in my life and I love them all. Although I can't have a full-time pet of my own right now, thanks to these great dogs, I never feel alone.
